The Solidarity Collective is proud to present a workshop exploring the use of podcasting as an artistic medium for activism. This workshop was open to any youth/young people in the community.

Led by Solidarity Collective members Jayal Chung and Cornelius Beaver, this workshop focused on exploring intentional and unintentional harm + hate and their impacts, as well as ways to care for community and yourself. Although this workshop covered podcasts as a central artistic medium, Jayal and Corn lead discussions around possible overlaps: a podcast can become a zine, an art show, or even a protest.

This workshop offered guided conversation and prompts, individual reflection to inspire collective organizing to address hate in our community.

JAYAL CHUNG

Jayal Chung is an artist, queer parent, and works as a youth navigator by day with Youth Inclusion Program. She was a volunteer programmer with LU Radio who hosted a few shows including Queer Radio Hour, and a collaborative project Bridging Resistance: Relationships & Resurgence. Currently, you can check out her latest podcast 'Yum Cha Dai Ga' on spotify, anchor fm, google platforms.

Her ancestors settled here from China. From paints, pastels, zines, podcasts– making art is an expression of resistance, self-care, urgency, dreaming, finding community, and writing into existence.

CORN BEAVER

Cornelius ‘Corn’ Beaver (they/them) is a Two-Spirit poet from Nibinamik First Nation. They are a student in the Onajigawin Indigenous Services (Native Child and Family Services) program at Confederation College. Recently, they were involved with the Indigenous Youth Residency program where they collaborated with five other youth to create the ‘Maawandoonan // Mino Bimaadiziwin: In our hearts we walk the good life together’ art exhibition. For Corn, creating art is an act of survival, resistance, relationship-building and dreaming.
